LINKS Magazine GreenHouse Opens on Earth Day

Apr 24, 2009;

Reynolds Plantation and LINKS Magazine are pleased to announce the opening of the first-ever LINKS GreenHouse on April 22, Earth Day.  The energy-efficient home is constructed by Linger Longer Homes in partnership with Georgia Power and Energy Star.  The LINKS GreenHouse is an exciting and innovative example of using green building practices that are environmentally friendly and efficient.

Reynolds Plantation is a community entrenched in a long history of environmental awareness and stewardship of the land.  Linger Longer Homes, headquartered at Georgia’s Lake Oconee, home of Reynolds Plantation, has consistently met or exceeded guidelines set by the National Association of Home Builders.

“When you look around Reynolds Plantation and see what Mercer Reynolds and his family did from the very beginning – it was a plan,” notes Nancy Purcell, editorial director, LINKS Magazine. “Obviously, the environment and attention to detail was all part of his original plan. We think that the first-ever LINKS GreenHouse at Reynolds Plantation fits that plan.”

The LINKS GreenHouse adheres to the EarthCraft certification system – a stringent 150-point environmental scale developed by the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association and supported by government and industry leaders.  The EarthCraft certification requires strict attention to many “green” standards, including energy efficiency, building materials, indoor air quality, water quality and use, site planning and homebuyer education.

The home will be remarkably quiet and comfortable with an emphasis on natural light streaming in from the many windows and glass doors.  The beauty of the design is enhanced through the many elements of efficiency (housewrap, ductwork, insulation, floor joists) that are hidden within the walls.

The LINKS GreenHouse is open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 12 – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
