Virginian Golf Club Community Profile“A place where man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow flowers.” We couldn’t state our intent more unequivocally. Nor eloquently. In conceiving The Virginian, we have had two preoccupations: to earn the respect of those who appreciate an uncommonly fine golf course, a course in which all the major publications consistently rank among their Top 100; and to earn the respect of those appreciate tradition, fellowship and pride of ownership. Especially pride of ownership. Ownership not simply of an exceptional home, but also of a community that takes pride in its respect for civility and quality of life, an ideal that strikes many as regrettable becoming relegated to the history books. Here in the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands, only a few miles from the highest mountains, and one of the largest and most breathtaking lakes in Virginia, there is a since that we live in an innocent place and are obliged to pass it on, its innocence intact, to our heirs and they in turn to theirs. A lofty, but not at all impossible expectation, as you can see for yourself by exploring Virginia’s Southern Highlands. Walking its Appalachian Trail. Seeing its historic homes. And, then, carefully considering not simply what we’ve built here at The Virginian, but more importantly, what we haven’t. |
