Dataw Island - Dataw Island, SC

The Island Life

Between Savannah and Charleston, there's a historic haven on the Carolina coast, a place where the fertile soil that hosted indigo and cotton on an antebellum plantation is still home to a rich experience. It's a place grounded in history, where the foundations of 18th-century structures made of local sand, lime, water and oyster shells still stand. Defined by the Atlantic, the Intracoastal, lagoons and lush marshes, the waterways helped shape the island's history and an active lifestyle of contemporary luxury. There's a fluid connection between residents and the Lowcountry landscape and between neighbors and friends. Because Dataw Island isn't just where you live; it's a way of life.

The Tee Box

In a place where golf is revered as highly as southern hospitality, amateurs and pros alike will appreciate teeing off in a coastal showplace. Challenging by nature's distinct design, Dataw Island's two first-class courses follow the lay of the land. A sequence of dikes originally created to generate more land for plantation cotton fields, is the guide for Tom Fazio's Cotton Dike course. The marsh waters of Jenkins Creek mosey by nearly half of its 18 holes and the rich green fields and fairways require strategic accuracy.

Narrower than the Cotton Dike, the Arthur Hills Morgan River signature course demands accuracy at every bend, while a combination of land and water challenges inspire strokes of genius. The cart path weaves beneath the shades of the mature oaks that guard the Morgan River and the game follows the pace of the landscape.

Before you experience the courses' natural charms, learn to swing like a natural, from a tenured team of golf professionals at the Dataw Island Golf Club. From a regularly refreshed pro shop, to group and private lessons, clinics and tournaments, the club accommodates golfers of all abilities. Although the courses are both named for legends, the most important name at Dataw is yours.

The Gathering Places

Dataw's thoughtful amenities keep the island's community of friends connected. In the 870 gated acres, many different home styles mingle. Whether you live in a villa or the dream home you designed, neighbors share social spaces and a love for the low country. A Community Center designed with residents in mind, is 16,000 square feet of activity. From an indoor lap pool and whirlpool spa, to a dance and aerobic studio and a massage room, it's easy to unwind -- your way. Whether you take ballroom dancing, oil painting, conversational Spanish or join The Yacht Club, The Bridge Club or a bible study, the Center is the heart of the community.

A Dataw Island Club membership affords residents access to a clubhouse that entertains with comfortable luxury. And a full-service marina with deep-water slips keeps you connected to the surrounding waterways. When you're not on the water, mild temperatures allow year-round tennis play on HAR-TRU® courts. An on-site tennis pro and staff serve group and private lessons, and the Dataw Island Tennis Association, a social group for tennis members, creates an ongoing calendar for off-court activities.

No matter which living space you select in this private, residential community, each square foot of the social centers, the classic landscaping and the natural surroundings are extensions of your home.

The Seaside City

Beaufort, the "Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands," maintains a coveted place on the map and an infectious small-town charm. Beyond boutique shopping, world-class golf and water recreation, the seaside city's southern hospitality has welcomed visitors for decades. Historic structures ground the town, but creative arts and dining make Beaufort an ideal blend of past and present. The second oldest city in South Carolina, untouched ruins still dot the landscape. But with a thriving creative culture, there's a new way to discover Beaufort every time you're here.
