Robert Trent Jones Jr.
As Jack Nicklaus Jr. or Ray Floyd Jr. can attest, a famous name can be a heavy burden. But Robert Trent Jones Jr. matched his father’s feat in designing a golf course, Chambers Bay, that will host the U.S. Open.
The younger Jones (known as “Bobby”) worked with his father (who went by “Trent”) on many projects. And while Trent had a distinct style that resulted in many difficult layouts, Bobby went a different path that wound up being equally as successful, building courses that appeal to players of all levels.
